I think its because Microsoft/Mojang are trying to move everyone over to the Better Together updates  MCPC is the proper and original version! |

Oh! Without a doubt, Woody. It puts everything much more firmly under their control (and importantly under their financial control - you have to buy any mods that you want)
It would be the death of all modding if they closed down the 'One True Version' in favour of the 'Lets Play Together' version.
Personally, I would move off onto other games, rather than become absorbed into the 'Microsoft collective'.
