A few of us got into this discussion about recording schedules recently - whether it suits us best to record a whole series in one sitting, or one episode at a time, or any other variation.
I just thought I would reprint the conversation here, and see if it sparks off any more thoughts from Base Race players:

... Good to know about the slimes! I know what you mean about feeling a bit cheaty. I think that's partially why I like to record several episodes at a time and sometimes end up recording it all in just a few sittings. Besides, of course, the fact that I'm having fun with it and just don't want to stop anyway! LOL The bad side of that is then I have to wait for weeks for the new challenges. I do love watching everyone's videos to see how, what, and where they found and did things, but sometimes you can't help using that info to your advantage when you see something you can use. If it's already recorded...then, you can't use it, but you can certainly still kick yourself for missing it! LOL

+JadeLF Jade - have the same feeling. It is fun to play these challenges straight through; plus when I actually do wait (like this month's MHC) I end up having to transfer files as I travel for work and bigger mistakes can happen!

I sometimes wonder how things would work out if we had to have everything recorded before posting started, but then we might end up losing some people due to them not being able to record that much that quick or just not wanting to. I love watching other videos to see how everyone is doing, but at the same time, it can feel a bit cheaty when you find out about something that does help you. But, this is really more for fun and the community, anyway, so not really a big deal.

Well, this month I recorded all at once and did much better. So, I think some of the help we get from others is great, but may not overcome the loss of "flow". I agree that we aren't trying to make the perfect game, just having a challenge structure that makes it fun.

I'm tending towards the idea of playing it all out at the start of the month. I may try it in May. I would still have to break off and think between episodes, or I would soon fall into a disorganised, forgetful shambles. It does still worry me that I would miss out on the ongoing conversations - or at least that my own role in conversations would have to be subtly different, to avoid showing fore-knowledge, and that I couldn't learn from advice I received. But on balance I think it may be worth a try.
So ... any thoughts anyone? Can you see any other pro's and con's of any of the different recording 'patterns'? Or have you got another 'pattern' entirely that suits you better?
