Hey, Base Racers! =D
Until now, the rule has been: If you do not complete The Race stage within 2 hours 40 minutes then your Base is non-competitive. However, this month, as long as you finish The Race (recording and uploading all of it, as usual) then your Base will be counted in the contest!
I will make another announcement at the beginning of next month and make an official rule change, which will include some kind of 'penalty' for not completing the Race within the time limit (This will actually be less of a penalty and more of an incentive to finish in time).
Please vote for one of these options or leave a suggestion for what you think a good 'penalty' could be. We need a rule that will encourage people to play fast, in the spirit of the game, and not slow down and think "this doesn't matter anyway" if they are not going to get a super fast time =]
1. Your time will not be recorded in the Monthly Player List (you'll get a creeper face instead). 2. You'll get a list of extra items from the Free Blocks list that you'll HAVE to include on your build. 3. Both. 4. No change (The rules remain as they were and your Base WON'T be competitive if you don't finish the Race in time).

What if you get a creeper face for your time in the list and those who finish the race would have the option of choosing one block (not including the first 9 core building blocks) and exchanging it for a block of their choice. The amounts would have to be the same, though. For instance, if someone didn't want to use the 32 pistons in some form, they could exchange those for 32 of another block that's not already part of the building supplies. You may not want to go that route, either, but it's just another idea to think about.

Interesting idea, Jade =] I like that it's more of a reward for the people who finish in time rather than a punishment for those who don't; however, from my hosting point of view, if I deliberately throw a curveball of a block to see how people manage to incorporate it into their build, I wouldn't want all the players who completed the Race in time to swap that block for something else It would be nice to think of something along these lines though, so it feels like a reward for finishing fast =]

Makes perfect sense! The other option you could do with this would be to make it so certain blocks cannot be exchanged, like the first 9 and whatever curve balls you throw in that month. Or you choose a few blocks that you would allow to be exchanged and then the player picks one of those. That could also be used to eliminate those times when you say that we have 25 birch logs, but 25 of any log could be used instead. That could be used as an exchange block. I'm just thinking out loud and throwing ideas out there. I'm sure that you will come up with something that works out well for the challenge. Over time, I'm sure something really ingenious will come up for this!

I say keep it simple. Love the creeper face idea. We want to encourage more players and switching up the build rules might get people confused.

Hm, these are some good points, thank you for chipping in =] I'm going to make an announcement tomorrow in my episode 0, but the new rules are subject to change and we'll see how it goes. I'm sure that we'll be able to find a solution that suits everyone over time!
